Conference Round-Up — Bilan de l’ACC25
Dear CCA friends and colleagues,
It was wonderful to see many of you at George Brown College and online this week for CCA25. As in previous years, everyone’s papers and roundtable discussions were so strong and engaging – congratulations to all! As is the tradition, here is a roundup of our conference this year.
- The CCA annual conference showcased 244 papers, 67 panels, 15 roundtables, and 361 presenters in total.
- I would like to extend, on behalf of everybody at CCA, our most sincere appreciation to Nicole Cohen, the Conference Chair and Vice-President, and Sibo Chen and Nikole Pascetta, our Local Arrangements Coordinator for organizing the 2025 CCA.
- Thank you all to those who came to the keynote address Wednesday, and thank you to Dr. Sarah Sharma for a thought-provoking and timely talk.
- Congratulations to all newly elected members of the Board: Dr. Crystal Chokshi (Secretary) and Dr. Rianka Singh, Dr. James Cairns, Dr. Mirjam Gollmitzer, and Dr. Nicolette Little (members-at-large); and graduate student representative Aimee Koristka. A big thank you to our outgoing Board members: Dr. Liam Cole Young (Secretary), Dr. Pascale Caidor, Dr. Karrmen Crey, Dr. Sibo Chen (members-at-large) and Amanda Zanco (graduate student representative). We thank you for your contributions to CCA over the past few years.

- Congratulations to all the nominees for the Gertrude J. Robinson Book Prize, and to this year’s prize winner, Dr. Heather A. Love (University of Waterloo) for Cybernetic Aesthetics: Modernist Networks of Information and Data, published by Cambridge University Press.
- Congratulations to all the nominees for the CCA Emerging Scholar Book Prize, and to this year’s prize winner, Dr. Jordan B. Kinder (Wilfrid Laurier University) for Petroturfing: Refining Canadian Oil through Social Media, published by University of Minnesota Press.

- Winner in the postdoctoral category: Daphne Idiz, University of Toronto, for “Legislating ‘Cultural Diversity’ for Global Streamers: Unpacking Policy Challenges from the European Union and Canada”
- CCA Outstanding Student Essay Prize: Hoornaz Keshavarzian, a PhD student from Simon Fraser University, for “Disruptive Griefwork: Co-storytelling, Co-memorializing, and the Politics of Counter-hegemonic Grief”
- Congress-CCA Graduate Merit Award: Jessica Campbell, York University and Toronto Metropolitan University, for “From Costa Rica to Canada: Shaping Environmental Perspectives through Personal Narratives”
- Mahmoud Eid Graduate Prize to Stephen Neville, York University, for “Métis Silent Encounters”
