Les membres du jury traiteront toutes les d\u00e9lib\u00e9rations en toute confidentialit\u00e9<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conflits d&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eats <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le principe de coll\u00e9gialit\u00e9 r\u00e9git toutes les d\u00e9lib\u00e9rations du jury. Si un.e membre du jury estime qu&#8217;il existe un conflit d&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eats r\u00e9el ou per\u00e7u avec l&#8217;un.e des \u00e9tudiant.e.s, il lui incombe de conseiller les autres membres. Les conflits d&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eats peuvent inclure, mais pas uniquement, des relations de supervision, des relations personnelles ou intimes, des relations de travail \u00e9troites et\/ou des collaborations de recherche. Bien que des inqui\u00e9tudes puissent \u00eatre soulev\u00e9es si un membre du jury est un.e professeur.e du m\u00eame programme que l&#8217;\u00e9tudiant.e, cela n&#8217;est pas n\u00e9cessairement consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un conflit d&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eats. Dans le cas d&#8217;un conflit d&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eats r\u00e9el ou per\u00e7u, le.la pr\u00e9sident.e a peut demander au membre du jury en question de s&#8217;abstenir de toute discussion et\/ou de tout vote concernant le.a candidat.e en question. S&#8217;il n&#8217;y a que trois membres du jury et qu&#8217;un.e membre est invit\u00e9.e \u00e0 s&#8217;abstenir, et qu&#8217;il y a \u00e9galit\u00e9 des voix, le.la vice-pr\u00e9sident.e de l&#8217;ACC era invit\u00e9.e \u00e0 exprimer la voix pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rante. Dans la mesure du possible, il est pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable que le jury arrive \u00e0 une d\u00e9cision unanime. Il n&#8217;y a pas de mentions d&#8217;honneur et il est pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable d&#8217;\u00e9viter les d\u00e9cisions \u00e0 \u00e9galit\u00e9 de voix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Crit\u00e8res<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le jury s\u00e9lectionne le gagnant sur la base des crit\u00e8res suivants :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><em>Engagement dans des sujets et des questions d&#8217;actualit\u00e9 dans les \u00e9tudes de communication<\/em>. L&#8217;essai s&#8217;engage clairement et directement dans un domaine reconnu des \u00e9tudes de communication. Les travaux interdisciplinaires seront accept\u00e9s, mais doivent \u00eatre clairement li\u00e9s aux \u00e9tudes de communication en termes de cadre th\u00e9orique et\/ou m\u00e9thodologique<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Style<\/em>. L&#8217;argumentation et l&#8217;analyse de l&#8217;essai sont bien structur\u00e9es, provocantes et professionnelles. L&#8217;essai est clairement \u00e9crit et communique des id\u00e9es dans un style accessible sans compromettre la sophistication th\u00e9orique.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Originalit\u00e9<\/em>. L&#8217;essai apporte une contribution originale \u00e0 la recherche en engageant et\/ou en remettant en question les courants existants de recherche et de d\u00e9bat dans le domaine. Les arguments et les preuves de l&#8217;essai sont applicables et\/ou remettent en question les recherches pertinentes dans le domaine des \u00e9tudes sur la communication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Potentiel de recherche futur<\/em>. L&#8217;essai signale le potentiel de l&#8217;auteur.e \u00e0 apporter une contribution significative aux \u00e9tudes sur la communication au Canada.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Canadian Communication Association generously sponsors an annual cash prize for an outstanding graduate student essay. Winning authors will be expected to provide an abridged version or full copy of the winning paper for publication on the CCA website, along with a bio and an abstract. The prize winner will be announced at the CCA annual conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Value: <strong>$750<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rationale<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>To recognize and honour the most promising student scholars in Canadian Communication Studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To promote scholarly excellence in the field<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To raise the profile of student research activity in graduate programs of Communication across Canada<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who is eligible<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Students currently enrolled in a graduate program in Communications at a Canadian university or a Canadian student (including permanent residents or landed immigrants) enrolled in a graduate program in Communications abroad<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students must be fully-paid members of the CCA at the time that they submit their paper for consideration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Previous winners may not apply unless they have completed the degree in which they were enrolled at the time of winning and are now in a different degree program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is eligible<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Any single-authored scholarly essay written by the author addressing an issue of relevance to the field of Communication studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Essays must be between 6000 and 8000 words, inclusive of bibliography and appendices, and adhere to a recognized scholarly format<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit essay in Word or PDF<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A cover page with the paper\u2019s title, the abstract, the author\u2019s name, contact info, university affiliation, and degree status must be included<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Papers in either English or French<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to submit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Students must submit their paper electronically to the President of CCA, by the stated deadline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Failure to submit a version of the paper that adheres to these guidelines or to secure membership in the CCA by the time of submission will result in disqualification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The jury<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The Prize is administered by the President of the CCA, who also serves as the chair of the jury, which includes at least three members, including the President<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other jury members usually come from the CCA Board of Directors, but can also include members of the professoriate in Communication Studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student representatives are not eligible to serve on the jury<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The decision of the jury is final, no appeals are permitted. Jury members will treat all deliberations with full confidentiality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conflicts of interest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The principle of collegiality shall govern all deliberations by the jury. If a jury member feels that there is a real or perceived conflict of interest with one of the students, it is their responsibility to advise the other members. Conflicts of interest can, but do not necessarily, include supervisory relationships, personal or intimate relationships, close working relationships, and\/or research collaborations. While there can be concerns raised if a jury member is a professor in the same program as the student, this is not necessarily deemed a conflict of interest. In the case of a real or perceived conflict of interest, the Chair has the authority to ask the jury member in question to abstain from discussion and\/or voting related to the nominee in question. If there are only three members of the jury and one member is asked to abstain, and there is a tie decision, the Vice-President of the CCA will be asked to cast the deciding vote. Wherever possible, it is preferable for the jury to arrive at a unanimous decision. There are no honorable mentions and it is preferable to avoid tie decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The jury selects the winner based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><em>Engagement with current topics and issues in communication studies<\/em>. The essay clearly and directly engages with a recognized area of communication studies. Interdisciplinary work will be accepted, but must be clearly linked to communication studies in terms of the theoretical and\/or methodological framework<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Style<\/em>. The essay\u2019s argumentation and analysis are well structured, provocative and professional. The essay is clearly written, and communicates ideas in an accessible style without compromising theoretical sophistication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Originality<\/em>. The essay makes a novel contribution to research by engaging and\/or challenging existing streams of scholarly research and debate in the field. Arguments and evidence from the essay are applicable to and\/or challenges relevant research in communication studies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Future research potential<\/em>.
